It’s been my great fortune to accompany some exceptional Buddhist monks on amazing walking journeys. I felt it my duty to record these walks: not only were they unique experiences but I was privileged to be travelling with monks who were famous as wise teachers. I wanted to share how they dealt with these sometimes very difficult journeys: their humanity, their humour and their humility.
I've tried to make these accounts as readable as possible: for anyone, whether Buddhist or just interested in adventure stories. Although I’m not much of a writer, I can tell an entertaining story. With each journey I’ve also tried to share the lessons we learnt that would be of use to the reader.
All these monks have become key individuals in transplanting the Buddha’s teachings to the West. I suspect one day people will want to know how these legendary characters actually were as individuals. Thus these accounts are also for posterity.
As this is Dhamma, I’ve never wanted to make money from the books. They were all printed for free distribution and made available through the monasteries of the Ajahn Chah Forest Tradition. Now they are gathered here for you to download for free.
